There was a Wall Street Journal story the other day about how Italian producers are starting to embed edible computer chips in wheels of parmesan to establish and confirm their authenticity and prevent fakes from being foisted upon unwitting cheese vendors. I think it is a smart idea that has consumer applications, and reminds me of a system that I saw in Japan almost two decades ago that taught me an important lesson about creating and maintaining trust.
