business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Wall Street Journal< reports this morning on a new best-selling book that is so popular that bookstores have run out of copies to sell.

"Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food,” has been written by Jessica Seinfeld, the wife of the comedian, and for a variety of reasons – the subject is timely, and the celebrity connection certainly is helping – demand has far outstripped supply. (Seinfeld went on “Oprah” to promote the book, which is usually good for a few gazillion book sales.) There is even a several week wait when you order the book on Amazon.

However, with success comes controversy. The Journal notes that another, similar book is actually in bookstores: "The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals," by Missy Chase Lapine. On the one hand, publishers of the Lapine book are pointing out similarities between the two tomes…though they aren’t complaining too much because their sales are being helped by Seinfeld’s.

Jessica Seinfeld denies that she ever saw the Lapine book when she was writing hers.

Whatever. Supermarkets ought to be lining up to stock both titles.
