business news in context, analysis with attitude

Seattle-based Associated Grocers’ shareholders voted overwhelmingly last week to approve the sale of the company to Unified Grocers, and the transaction is now scheduled to close by the end of the month.

In a memo over the weekend that was obtained by MNB after it was sent to the company’s employees, Associated Grocers CEO John Runyan wrote, “While final details for closing the transaction are being completed, AG and Unified staff are working diligently to ensure that AG employees transition into Unified employees as seamlessly as possible. When the transaction closes, our top priority will be to ensure that the company is operating under a single structure - and without any disruption to retailers.

“Although the transaction is not yet closed, this milestone event marks a new beginning for our companies, one that will offer many opportunities for improvements to our business, personal development and sustainable growth. Together we can all achieve more while increasing our competitiveness and winning sales in the many and ever-changing markets we serve.”
