At its core, food safety issues result in people – or, in some cases, pets – getting sick.

But there is a story out of southeast China suggesting that there may be a way to prevent or mitigate the symptoms that often accompany food-related illnesses.

A 66-year-old Chinese man says that he has avoided all stomach distress for some four decades through a steady diet of live tree frogs, accompanied sometimes by live mice, baby rats and green frogs. The man once ate 20 mice in a single day, the report says.

The only downside is a compulsion to leap instead of walk. But how bad is that when compared to a life without stomachaches?
