• Published reports say that limited assortment chain Aldi plans to open two stores in Virginia, in Fredericksburg. The company already has five stores in the state.
• Pinnacle Foods Group, which owns Duncan Hines baking mixes, Hungry Man and Swanson frozen dinners and Vlasic pickles, will be acquired by a group led by the buyout specialist Blackstone Group for about $1.3 billion in cash. Former Kraft CEO Roger Deromedi will become chairman of the company when the deal closes, probably during the first half of the year.
