• Ruddick Corporation reports that its Harris Teeter subsidiary had first quarter sales that were up by 11.2 percent to $796.3 million, compared to sales of $716.1 during the same period a year ago, with same-store sales up 3.3 percent. Operating profit at Harris Teeter increased by 6.3% to $35.4 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2007 as compared to $33.3 million in the prior year period.
• Ingles Markets reported that its first fiscal quarter net income increased $3.4 million to $11.2 million, compared with net income of $7.8 million. Q1 net sales increased 10.0% to $685.7 million for the quarter ended December 30, 2006 compared with $623.4 million for the year-ago quarter, with same-store sales up 10.4 percent.
• CVS reported that its fourth quarter earnings rose 2.7 percent to $417.2 million, compared with earnings of $406.4 million during the same period a year ago. Quarterly sales were up 24 percent to $12.1 billion, with same-store sales up 8.7 percent.
For the year, net income rose 12 percent to $1.37 billion, from $1.22 billion a year earlier. Sales rose 18 percent to $43.8 billion.
• Anheuser-Busch posted fourth-quarter net income of $190.7 million, up from $145.6 million a year ago. Net sales for the quarter were $3.42 billion, up from $3.37 billion a year ago.
• Clorox Co. reported second quarter sales of $1.1 billion, up 3.5 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Q2 net income was $96 million, up 16 percent from $83 million a year ago.
