business news in context, analysis with attitude

Burger King announced yesterday that after two years of research, it is testing cooking oils without trans fats in a number of its restaurants, and hopes to be able to roll out these new cooking oils throughout the chain by late 2008.

The company said it will start using the non-trans fat oil in New York before the city's ban on trans fats in restaurants goes into effect on July 1, 2007.

Gee, and we thought McDonald’s was a laggard.

Makes it seem pretty clear why Burger King is always a distant number two.

The fact is that nobody goes into fast feeders like McDonald’s, Burger King or Wendy’s (or even places like Denny’s, though after last week we hesitate to bring this name up) mistaking their offerings for health food, but that doesn't mean they should be completely tone deaf on something as simple as this.
