• Published reports say that Tesco has decided to get into the private medical insurance business in the UK, selling insurance plans that are said to be about a third cheaper than some of their counterparts.

People will be able to buy the policies via the phone, online or in-store.

"Our customer research suggests that perceived high prices, complicated products and complex medical questions have been major stumbling blocks to buying health insurance,” says Jeremy Sutton, head of savings and investments at Tesco Personal Finance. “Our approach will open up the market to people who want the choice that health insurance offers.”
