business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Boston Globe reports that in keeping with a local tradition, Asian grocer Super 88 decided to ignore the Massachusetts blue laws and stay open on Thanksgiving Day, something that it legally has been prohibited from doing.

In a supporting editorial, the Globe wrote: “Will somebody please change the state law so people can shop for groceries on Thanksgiving? It would be a reprieve for cooks who have forgotten to buy nutmeg or who watched helplessly while the cranberries accidentally cascaded onto the floor…This is the 21st century, and the law should keep up.”
