The United States Mint plans to release a new series of one-dollar coins, beginning next year, with the series carrying the faces of every deceased US president.
The first, with George Washington, will be released in time for Presidents’ Day 2007, and will be followed next year by coins featuring John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Four new coins will be put into circulation each year until 2016.
The size, color and metal content of the coins will be the same as the Sacagawea dollars, which will continue to be circulated along with the Susan B. Anthony dollar coins.
