• There are reports in the Belgian media that Delhaize plans to create an online wine course that will attempt to educate consumers about the benefits and pleasures of wine, and create greater demand for the product. Twentysomething shoppers in the Belgium reportedly have been moving away from wine and toward mixed drinks, which prompted the move by Delhaize.

This strikes us as an intelligent way to use the Internet. Too often even retailers with strong wine departments and informed staffers don’t use the Internet as a way of educating and enticing shoppers. It’s a great way of creating a sense of community – they could even develop message boards that would allow shoppers to share their own enthusiasms and discoveries.
