California state senators voted last week to make Zinfandel the state’s official historic wine, and have sent the bill to the state Assembly for further consideration.
Supporters of the bill say that it recognizes a grape that dates back to the Gold Rush and has a unique place in the state’s history, while opponents say that it ignores other, important wines that come from various wine-growing regions of the state.
