business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Boston Globe reported that Subway, the fast food sandwich chain, is using its longtime pitchman Jared Fogle to record inspirational phone messages designed to keep people motivated in their New Year’s resolutions to lose weight. People can sign up for the program, and Fogle’s call will arrive on schedule.

Fogle famously lost 245 pounds eating mostly Subway sandwiches.

The program is slated to go through the month, but could be extended.
KC's View:
This is smart, smart marketing. Subway actually is getting people to ask it to make sponsored phone calls to their homes or offices.

Even more importantly, it builds a long-term relationship with these customers.
