• Albertsons, Inc. reported third quarter earnings of $81 million, compared to $107 million during the same period a year ago – a drop that it attributed to the three hurricanes that hit portions of its operating areas. Total Q3 sales were $9.9 billion, essentially flat compared to last year's third quarter revenue. Same-store sales were off by about a half a percentage point.
• Dollar General Corporation reported third quarter net income of $64.4 million, compared to $71.1 million during the same period a year ago. Net sales for the third quarter were $2.1 billion, a 9.5 percent increase over last year’s Q3 sales of $1.9 billion. Same-store sales were up 1.4 percent.
• Dollar Tree Stores reported third quarter sales of 796.8 million, a 10.1% increase compared to $724.0 million during the same period a year ago. Same-store sales were off by a percentage point.
• H.J. Heinz Co. reported that its second quarter profit totaled $203.8 million, up from about $199 million a year earlier. Company revenue for the period increased six percent to $2.34 billion from $2.2 billion last year.
