  • A new group has been created to help Wal-Mart counter activist groups that paint it as having a negative impact on the nation’s economic life.

The new independent group, Americans for Free Enterprise, says that it will launch a campaign to “defend the nation's largest private employer against a steady barrage of largely baseless attacks by special interests.”

Luke Boggs, the organization’s executive director, says, “Wal-Mart's low prices have been a great boon to the American people. By keeping markups and prices low, Wal-Mart has boosted our purchasing power, reduced our cost of living and increased the standard of living for millions of Americans.”

The group says it is not funded, nor is it supported in any other way, by Wal-Mart.
