  • The Associated Press reports that Wal-Mart plans to open or expand 484 stores next year – more than 100 more than originally projected.

The information was gleaned from a memo that was released by the anti-Wal-Mart group Wal-Mart Watch, and then confirmed as being accurate by the company.

"This report is simply a listing of all stores we expect to open over the next 12 to 14 months, and many are already under construction. Since the unions oppose us wherever we locate our stores, this new stolen document doesn't seem to provide them any advantage," Wal-Mart spokesman Marty Heires said.

Critics say that Wal-Mart understated its plans in order to make it more difficult for the opposition to marshal its forces.
