business news in context, analysis with attitude

  • The Chicago Sun Times reports this morning that the “Jewel-Osco stores dotting the Chicago region will likely have new but separate owners after parent company Albertson's sells its assets, analysts say.” Those assets may not be sold off until Albertsons is sold whole to another entity, but analysts seem to believe that it is an almost certainty that this new entity will sell off a number of the company’s divisions.

  • Procter & Gamble reportedly will sell its Rembrandt line of oral care products to a unit of Johnson & Johnson . Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • Publix Super Markets announced that it will shortly begin selling three fresh/frozen soups - New England clam chowder, shrimp and scallop minestrone, and shrimp noodle - manufactured for Joe’s Stone Crab, the Miami Beach institution.

KC's View:
We began to salivate just writing this story. Smart move by Publix to bring in a food product that obviously will have great local resonance.
