  • Wal-Mart reportedly is beginning to switch from petroleum-based to corn-based plastic packaging – which Wal-Mart executive Matt Kistler says “will save the equivalent of 800,000 gallons of gasoline and reduce more than 11 million pounds of greenhouse-gas emissions.”


  • Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott said yesterday that the company will strive to make its foreign suppliers more accountable for maintaining acceptable social and environmental standards.

    Scott said that specific questions will be asked: "Are you running your factories in a way that promotes environmental sustainability? Are you sourcing from people that causes there to be inclusion and opportunity for women and minority owned businesses? You'll see Wal-Mart taking a stronger stand over the next several months in these areas."


  • The Duluth News Tribune reports that a Wisconsin shopper has appealed the dismissal of a lawsuit that was filed against Wal-Mart, charging it with creating deceptive advertising that made some people think that farm-raised salmon was actually wild salmon.
