  • Published reports say that Albertsons board will see presentations from three investor groups looking to acquire the company, including one consortium made up of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), Apollo Management and Texas Pacific Group; another made up of Thomas H. Lee Partners, Bain Capital, and Warburg Pincus; and a third of Cerberus Group and Kimco Realty. Speculation remains that Yucaipa Group may make its own bid for Albertsons rather than team up with any of the other bidders.

  • New Jersey-based Ogden Associates is acquiring Retail Systems Consulting (RSC) of Naples, Florida, the company that, among other ventures, runs the annual Global Electronic Marketing Conference (GEMCON).

  • The United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association (UFFVA) announced plans to expand its Retail Produce Manager Awards Program next year. Tom Stenzel, president of UFFVA, announced that that program will be expanded from 12 to 20 store level recipients in 2006, and include their corporate produce directors in formal recognition at the 2006 United Produce Show at FMI.

    “The first-year support from supermarket executives to honor their front-line produce staff was simply remarkable,” said Stenzel. “When we saw supermarket chain CEOs and other top executives participating in their first-ever produce convention, we knew this program was reaching the right people with an important message. We’re helping focus the entire supply chain on the importance of produce excellence at store level, and what a difference great employees empowered by their management can make in store sales.”
