  • The British Columbia Labour Relations Board (BCLRB) reportedly has certified employees of a Wal-Mart Tire & Lube Express in Cranbrook, BC, as members of the United Food and Commercial Works (UFCW) Canada.


  • Wal-Mart will have its first presence in Central America, buying a 33.3 percent stake in Central American Retail Holding Co. – the region’s top retailer – from Royal Ahold. The company has $2 billion (US) in annual sales and 363 stores in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

    Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
