- Kroger reported second quarter earnings of $196.5 million, compared with $142.4 million in the same period a year ago. Sales rose 6.8 percent to $13.9 billion from $13 billion last year.
- 7-Eleven Inc. reported August sales of $1.29 billion, a gain of 17.9 percent from $1.09 billion in August 2004. Same-store merchandise sales for the month were up 4.8 percent over August 2004, and total merchandise sales amounted to $762.6 million, up 6.1 percent from $718.7 million last year.
