business news in context, analysis with attitude

Quaker Oats, a division of PepsiCo, is bringing out a new oatmeal with 25 percent more grains, fiber and protein – designed to make people feel more full and hence lose weight because they eat less.

Quaker Weight Control Instant Oatmeal has no added sugar. The company says that not only will it help people eat less, but it also will help reduce cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease.
KC's View:
Sounds like a great idea. We can’t wait to try it.

However, we would offer one caution to Quaker. In its press release promoting the product, it quotes “Beverly Hills dietitian Mary Donkersloot” as saying why it is a product that’s time has come. Our only suggestion is that Beverly Hills dietitians may not be the most accessible sources of advice for mainstream Americans.
