  • Wal-Mart reported August sales were up 10 percent to $23.33 billion. Wal-Mart Stores sales were up 9.9 percent to $15.71 billion, Sam's Club sales were up nine percent at $3 billion, and international sales were up 11.3 percent to $4.61 billion. Same-store sales were up 3.3 percent.


  • Costco reported that fourth quarter net sales were $16.37 billion, up 10 percent from $14.83 billion during the same period a year ago. For the just-completed fiscal year, sales were $51.87 billion, up $4.72 billion from a year ago.


  • BJ’s Wholesale Club reported that its August sales increased 12 percent to $598 million from $534.1 million last year, with same-store sales up 5.6 percent for the period.


  • CVS Corp. reported that its August sales totaled $2.8 billion, up 7.8 percent from $2.6 billion in the year-ago period. Same-store sales were up 6.2 percent for the period.


  • Target Corp. reported that August sales rose 12.2 percent to $3.86 billion, with same-store sales up 6.3 percent.


  • Carrefour reported first half sales that were the equivalent of $43.12 billion (US), up 2.6 percent from the same period a year earlier. Net sales for the period, however, were down 6.8 percent to $836 million (US).
