Forbes reports that six months after McDonald's agreed to pay $7 million to the American Heart Association to educate people about trans fats in foods, and to spend another $1.5 million to publicize the fact that it didn’t live up to its 2002 pledge to switch to a healthier cooking oil, a judge has approved the terms of the settlement.

Even as the checks are cashed and the lawyers are paid, and as McDonald's says that it has reduced the amount of trans fat in its McNuggets, Crispy Chicken, and McChicken products, the fact remains that it has not managed to follow through on the pledge it made three years ago.
