  • Wal-Mart’s Japanese affiliate, Seiyu, reported a first half loss that was the equivalent of $97.4 million (US), almost four times the first half loss of $26.6 million (US) recorded a year ago. Sales for the period were down 5.4 percent to $4.43 billion (US).

Which explains why Seiyu is developing plans for next year that will open supercenters bearing the Wal-Mart name, which it hopes will reinvigorate the company’s fortunes.
