- Whole Foods reported that its third quarter earnings reached $41.7 million, up from $31.8 million in the year-ago period. Revenue for the quarter was $1.1 billion, up from $917 million a year ago, and same-store sales were up 15.2 percent.
CEO John Mackey responded to the report by saying he believed that the company would reach its goal of $10 billion in sales by 2010.
- C-store chain The Pantry reported third quarter revenue just shy of $1.2 billion, up 25.7 percent from $928.3 million during the same period a year ago. Net income was $16.7 million, a 25.9 percent increase from $13.2 million in last year's third quarter.
