business news in context, analysis with attitude

Nabisco Foods had to recall more than 800,000 boxes of its new Pure Milk Chocolate Covered Oreo, a limited edition line extension, because the vanilla crème filling may in fact be peanut crème filling.

That wouldn’t be a good thing, because people with a peanut allergy might find themselves…well, dying.

The company emphasized that no allergic reactions or illnesses have yet been reported because of the mistake.

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," Nabisco said in a prepared statement.

No other Oreo, Fudge Covered Oreo or Nabisco Pure Milk Chocolate Covered cookie products were part of the recall. It was, ironically, the second Oreo recall in a week - the company issued a limited recall of Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs Oreo Thin Crisps Baked Chocolate Wafer Snacks because some Nabisco Chips Ahoy cookies were mistakenly put into boxes containing the Oreo Thin Crisp.
