The Alabama state Board of Education has voted to eliminate all fried foods from being sold in school cafeterias throughout the state, a change that will be phased in over two years.
French fries and fried chicken, for example, will be replaced by more vegetables and broiled meats and fish.
Carbonated soft drinks also will be banned from elementary schools but allowed in limited amounts in middle and high schools.
