- UK-based Tesco said Friday that its total first quarter sales were up 14.6 percent, with UK-only sales for the quarter up 11.3 percent. Same-store sales in the UK were said to be up by better than six percent.
However, CEO Sir Terry Leahy said he expects this year to be “:more challenging” than last, especially because consumer spending is likely to slow down.
