The US Supreme Court ruled late last week that local governments can exercise “eminent domain” over private property, taking it away from landowners for “just compensation” when it is deemed that the property could be better used for business development.
CNN reports that this could be an early Christmas present for big box retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot and the like, as they compete for locations that may be increasingly hard to come by in certain areas.

Suggestion to retailers.
While the Supreme Court apparently has lost touch with the notion that citizens are more important than the governments that represent them or the retailers that try and sell them stuff, we would suggest that it is business’s best interest not to make the same mistake.
Start tossing people out of their homes for a big box store, and we think that the potential public relations ramifications will be enormous.
