  • Wisconsin-based Fresh Brands reported fourth quarter net income of $503,000, compared with a net loss of $4.7 million for the year-ago period. Net sales for the quarter increased 4.8 percent to $159.3 million from $152 million a year earlier, with same-store sales up 1.2 percent.

    Same-store sales -- or sales for stores open in both years -- increased 1.2 percent in the quarter, after adjusting for an extra week in the 2003 period.

    For the just-completed fiscal year, Fresh Brands posted a net loss of $3 million, compared with a net loss of $473,000 in 2003. Net sales increased to $673.1 million from $602.5 million.
