A three-year contract covering more than 20,000 supermarket employees in the San Francisco Bay Area has been ratified, with more than 60 percent of the workers voting in favor of the deal.
The ratification assures that the areas three major chains – Kroger’s Ralphs, Safeway’s Vons, and Albertsons – will not face any sort of labor disruption of the kind that roiled the Southern California market a year ago. It also allows for the workers to take on greater responsibility for their health care costs.
