Kroger CEO David Dillon reportedly told a meeting of analysts that while the company is still focused on reducing prices as a way of being more competitive in an increasingly tough marketplace, management also is putting effort into other things, such as service, variety and assortment, private label development, and perishables.

Dillon also said that the company is seeing some cost savings from new labor agreements signed over the past year, agreements that were hard-won because of ongoing tensions between the company and organized labor.
