The New York Times reports this morning that Starbucks plans to start using paper cups made of 10 percent recycled material next year, which it says will make it the first national food chain using recycled paper that comes directly into con tact with food or beverages.

The company uses 1.5 billion cups a year, and it says this move alone will save approximately five million pounds of virgin tree fiber a year.
