- The Chicago Tribune speculates that now that Wrigley has arranged to acquire Life Savers and Altoids from Kraft for $1.5 billion, it seems entirely possible that Wrigley will be looking to make another, larger acquisition – probably a chocolate company.
- Published reports say that Ahold-owned Bruno’s has made a deal with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) to extent the contract that expired two months ago until July 2005. That should give Ahold time to sell Bruno’s without worrying about the lapsed contract; expectations are that Bruno’s will be divested by the end of the year.
- Hooters, which already operates restaurants in 46 states, Argentina, Aruba, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, Guatemala, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Taipei and Venezuela has announced the next country it will open in – Croatia.
The unit will open this Friday, and Croatian Hooters girls reportedly will be on duty for the opening.
