  • PepsiCo is renaming its Diet Sierra Mist soda Sierra Mist Free, stressing the fact that it has no calories, carbohydrates, sugar or caffeine.

    The brand is positioned against Coca-Cola’s Sprite; Coke recently recast Diet Sprite as Diet Sprite Zero.

    No formulas have been changed even as the names have been adjusted.


  • Smart & Final has announced that it will begin opening smaller stores that it believes will be able to achieve break-even at a faster pace. The new format will be roughly 16,000 square feet, compared to the roughly 36,000 square foot units that the company has been operating.


  • UK retailer Tesco has begun offering private label mortgages in its stores there, promising to offer lower rates than anyone else in the market.
