In California, Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia has proposed that half the food sold out of county vending machines be replaced by healthier options.
"The idea here is not to be the food police and tell people what they have to eat, but to offer healthy choices,” he said during a Board of Supervisors meeting last week.
While county officials have agreed to study the subject, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, there is some opposition from people who believe that such a move smacks of government intrusiveness.

We don’t understand how offering a choice is intrusive. Nobody is saying that people have to eat healthy snacks, just that they ought to be available.
And that’s exactly where all the evidence suggests that the country is going. Far from being intrusive, this is a responsible move.
Knowing California, though, it’ll probably become a state ballot measure.
