Canadian c-store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard has signed a deal with Dunkin’ Donuts that will allow it to open 66 new doughnut franchises over the next six years – about a dozen inside existing c-stores, and the rest as freestanding shops.

There also are plans for at least three combination Dunkin Donuts/Baskin-Robbins shops inside existing c-stores.

Couche-Tard operates c-stores under the Circle K, Dairy Mart and Mac’s banners. It already had a deal with the doughnut company to have master franchisee rights in Quebec, with plans to open as many as 100 stores there over the next five years.

Couche-Tard has been on a buying spree of late, having also purchased 22 sites in the Phoenix market from Shell Oil Products for $33 million.
