business news in context, analysis with attitude

Interesting piece in USA Today noting that while there has been a lot of press given to the notion that schools and food manufacturers seem to be working to provide healthier products to students as the academic year begins, there are naysayers.

"While the big food companies say they're doing the right thing, their heaviest promotions are still for the unhealthy stuff," Kelly Brownell, director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders and author of “Food Fight: The Inside Story of the Food Industry,” tells the paper.
KC's View:
While this may be a somewhat cynical view of the way big food companies operate, we suspect it also is pretty close to being accurate. But the only reason it is true is because there’s still more interest and enthusiasm among consumers for food that is less healthy and nutritious…and that isn’t necessarily the fault of food manufacturers and retailers.
