The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) has published a survey saying that 72 percent of Americans eat too much meat and fat, and don’t eat enough of the vegetables that can help prevent cancer and heart disease.

According to the survey, only 27 percent of those polled said they were eating the recommended proportion of plant food to animal food.

"This survey shows that Americans have got the proportions of food on their plates reversed. Most are cutting themselves off from the protection afforded by the vitamins, minerals and cancer-fighting phytochemicals found in vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans," AICR’s Melanie Polk told a news conference.
KC's View:
We want to be very careful here, because we don’t want to suggest that we think the following is a good idea…

But d’ya think it is entirely possible that somewhere down the road, somebody is going to sue the Atkins folks or the South Beach Diet proponents on the grounds that their low-carb diets caused them to get cancer or heart disease?

Again, we’re not in favor of such a suit. But it certainly seems to be a likely scenario.
