Market research firm TNS reports that the last quarter has seen Tesco and William Morrison Supermarkets gain market share while Sainsbury continues to lose momentum.
Top-ranked Tesco’s market share hit 27.5 percent in the last 12 weeks, up from 27.3 percent a month before and 26.3 percent a year ago.
Wal-Mart-owned Asda Group maintained its last quarter market share of 16.6 percent, up from nine percent a year ago.
Third-ranked Sainsbury’s market share last quarter fell to 15.5 percent, down from 15.7 percent a month before and from 16.5 percent a year earlier.
Morrison, which recently acquired Safeway Plc, said that its quarterly market share were up two percent from the combined companies’ shares a year ago.
