The Washington Post reports that the Montgomery County Council in Maryland is preparing to recommend that “the county save money by purchasing drugs from Canada for employees and retirees.”
In the policy is enacted, it would be in violation of federal law as interpreted and enforced by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – which happens to be headquartered in Rockville, Md., which is in Montgomery County.
The “reimportation” of prescription medicines from Canada and other countries is seen by a number of cities, counties, and states as a way of saving money and closing budget gaps.
