  • Wal-Mart Stores Inc. posted a six percent gain in March sales at U.S. stores open at least a year. Total sales for the five-week period ended April 2 reached $25.13 billion, up 14 percent from a year earlier.


  • Family Dollar Stores Inc. reported that sales rose 2.4 percent in March at stores open at least a year. Total sales in the five weeks ended April 3 rose 12 percent to $500.3 million.


  • 7-Eleven, Inc. reported that total March 2004 sales were $977.3 million, an increase of 8.2 percent over the March 2003 total of $903.4 million. Total merchandise sales for March 2004 were $639.8 million, an increase of 7.4 percent over the March 2003 total of $595.6 million. U.S. same-store merchandise sales for March 2004 increased 7.3 percent, on top of a 4.0 percent increase in March 2003.


  • PriceSmart announced that for the month of March 2004, net sales decreased 14.9 percent to $47.6 million from $56.0 million a year earlier, with same-store sales off 5.2 percent. For the seven months ended March 31, 2004, net sales decreased 10.5 percent to $353.7 million from $395.1 million last year.
