The Detroit Free Press reports that the conviction of Martha Stewart last Friday on obstruction of justice charges has thrown a money wrench into Kmart's plans to rebuild its business using her as a star pitchwoman.
Not only has Stewart been one of the company's most visible supporters, but her products - ranging from sheets to cookie cutters, paint to furniture - have been a key part of the company's marketing and merchandising strategy. But now that she is facing a prison term, pending a certain appeal of the verdict, the question is how Kmart will deal with this new reality.
Kmart officials to this point have not commented on the Stewart conviction.

Remarkably, it wasn't that long ago that we were all wondering if Stewart would abandon Kmart and move her wares and endorsement over to Wal-Mart or Target.
Right now, Kmart may be wishing she had.
