- Publix Super Markets reported that its 2003 profits were up 4.5 percent to $660.9 million from last year's $632.4 million. Publix posted $16.8 billion in sales for 2003, up 5.8 percent over the $15.9 billion from 2002.
- Costco Wholesale Corp. reported that its net sales for the second quarter of fiscal 2004 increased 14 percent to $11.33 billion from $9.92 billion during the second quarter of fiscal 2003. Net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2004 increased 25 percent to $226.8 million, compared to $182.1 million during the second quarter of fiscal 2003.
Net sales for the first half of fiscal 2004 increased 14 percent to $21.64 billion from $18.93 billion during the first half of fiscal 2003. Net income for the first half of fiscal 2004 increased 18 percent to $387.0 million, compared to net income for the first half of fiscal 2003 of $327.8 million.
- BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. posted fourth quarter earnings of $49.2 million, compared with $48.5 million during the same period a year earlier. Total sales for the fourth quarter rose 12.6 percent to $1.9 billion.
- Walgreen Co. reported that February sales rose 16.4 percent to $3.02 billion. Same-store sales rose 11.8 percent in February.
