business news in context, analysis with attitude

Reuters reports that German beer consumption dropped last year for the fourth year in a row.

The reason: an aging population, young people who want to drink other stuff, and a government-mandated 25-cent deposit on beer cans. The seriousness of the situation is underlined by the fact that last summer was the hottest in memory, and even that didn’t get people to drink more beer.
KC's View:
Ah, the Germans clearly haven't been reading Benjamin Franklin, who once wrote that "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy".

We're not sure how three different beer stories found their way into MNB this morning. Except, maybe, because God wants us to know that he loves us and wants us to be happy.
