Published reports say that a Norwegian businessman, Stein Erik Hagen, would like to acquire the 50 percent of Swedish supermarket chain ICA that is owned by Ahold.
Ahold bought its share of ICA in 2000 for the equivalent of $2 billion (US). While it has the option to buy the rest of the company, Ahold's current financial troubles, driven by an accounting scandal, have led to speculation that it in fact could divest its ownership in the company.
