Reports from Ireland suggest that Tesco is instigating a petroleum price war there with the opening of its first on-site gasoline station offering reduced prices and discounts that are linked to supermarket shopping. The expectation, according to the local experts, is that the Tesco move will put significant pressure on small, independent gasoline retailers.

At the same time, the Irish Competition Authority reportedly is investigating Tesco there because of charges that the retailing giant told local produce suppliers that it would no longer buy products from them if they also sold to Aldi and Lidl.
