business news in context, analysis with attitude

Reuters reports that French retailer Carrefour has decided to drop out of the bidding for Ahold's Brazilian businesses - which leaves Wal-Mart and local retailer Companhia Brasileira de Distribuicao as the sole companies interested in acquiring Bompreco Supermercados do Nordeste, G.Barbosa Comercial supermarkets and Hipercard, a credit card business.

All three chains submitted bids for the Brazilian assets last month; a specific reason for withdrawing the bid was not given.

Local experts say that it will take "some time" before a resolution is reached, according to Reuters.
KC's View:
Could we just sell the damn thing to Wal-Mart and be done with it? These kinds of stories are beginning to wear us out…sometimes it seems like Wal-Mart is like the B org of Star Trek fame…

"Resistance is futile."
