Delhaize USA announced that it is spending $26.1 million to acquire the 43-store Harveys supermarket chain, with stores in central and south Georgia and northern Florida. Delhaize also assumes about $18 million in accounts payable and other liabilities.

Harveys reportedly will remain a separate banner, getting strategic support from Food Lion. Delhaize also operates the Hannaford and Kash n' Karry chains in the US.
KC's View:
This acquisition allows Food Lion to fill in stores in areas where it is under-represented…and it is a smart strategic move for the company.
